PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Van Arson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Anfield (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Anfield has chosen Ecuador as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Arson displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Anfield throws out the jab.

Anfield shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Arson is trying to defend but Anfield finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Anfield uses his free foot to push down on Arson's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Arson.

Arson sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Anfield's guard.

Arson is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Anfield sees it coming and defends easily.

Arson drops back looking for a leg! Anfield is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Anfield manages to kick Arson off! Arson jumps back into Anfield's guard.

Arson drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Arson jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Anfield will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Arson fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Anfield manages to avoid it.

Arson is trying to control. Anfield wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Anfield moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Arson stands and throws Anfield's legs to the side, diving into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Arson is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Anfield knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Anfield is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Arson's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Anfield is looking to control Arson's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Anfield avoid being mounted?

A looping hook to the body misses from Arson. Anfield does a little dance to reset his feet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Anfield throws the left hand but Arson avoids the punch easily.
Anfield shoots in for a double leg but Arson sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Anfield throws an overhand right that lands on Arson's shoulder, as Arson tries to avoid the shot.

Arson fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Anfield sprawls well initially but Arson persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Arson is actively looking for submissions here but good counter grappling here from Anfield as he works his way to full guard.
Arson has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

That was a close second round but I would say that Van Arson will probably get the nod.

and Arson counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Anfield is looking to sinch up a triangle. Arson throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Anfield's body to avoid the submission. Anfield has instead reached around Arson's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Anfield arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
