PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between S S (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bible Basher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bible Basher will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, S S!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Bible Basher!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Colin Fotheringham and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Basher shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Basher showed some decent athleticism there.
S looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
S won't allow Basher to pass to mount.
S keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Basher is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Basher is pressing down on S's thigh, looking to free his foot. S is holding on for now.
S is looking to control Basher's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can S avoid being mounted?
S might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Basher wants to pass to mount but S is defending the position.
Basher is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for S!

Basher has control of S's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and S regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Basher with some aggressive grappling here, looking for the finish.

Basher really doesn't want to stay on the ground with S. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Basher goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now S is on top in guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

S avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Basher is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

S throws and elbow that misses. Basher uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in S's guard. Nice move by Basher!

Basher slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Basher thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
S manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

S is thwarting Basher's attempts to control the position.

S is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
S prevents Basher from standing back up.

S misses with a takedown attempt

and Basher counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Basher passes into half guard.
Basher wants to pass the guard but S is defending well.
Basher is tying to control. S wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Basher is looking for a kimura but S is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Basher to get the leverage.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Basher is keen to just control but S is a slippery customer.

Basher is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. S doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Basher.
S keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Basher is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
S pushes Basher off looking to stand but Basher dives back in and keeps control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Basher is working for a guillotine from mount but S frees his head quite easily.

Basher is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

S lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Basher!
Basher tries to reverse the position but S maintains control.
Basher wants to control but S is having none of it.
Basher gets back to half guard.

S seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Basher moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Basher gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

and Basher counters with a nice double leg into side control. S won't be happy with that.

S sneaks back into half guard.
S is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
S is pressing down on Basher's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
S bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Basher's guard.
S is looking to work some ground and pound but Basher has wrist control.
Bible Basher has got the better of the ground game so far.

Basher is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
S looking to pass the guard.
S preventing the sweep.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Basher can do anything to dispel that myth.
Basher is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
S being controlled here momentarily.

Basher has his foot on S's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. S works his way back into a safe position though.

Basher is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
S has his takedown stuffed

and Basher counters with a shoot takedown. S fights it but they end up in guard.
Basher controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Basher is pushing down on S's leg trying to pass to half guard. S is fighting to maintain full guard but Basher has managed to sneak the leg through.

S looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Basher gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Basher drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
S is trying to get back to half guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bible Basher showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!
