The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shahajian dives in and grabs Ortiz's left leg, looking for a takedown. Ortiz pushes down on Shahajian's head and hops out.
Shahajian scores with a slapping inside leg kick.

Ortiz closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Shahajian to the mat! Shahajian manages to get full guard.
Shahajian controls Ortiz momentarily but Ortiz frees himself.
Ortiz loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Shahajian can't keep his opponent in guard - Ortiz advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Shahajian thows a body kick. Ortiz tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Ortiz is breathing heavily.

Shahajian throws a head kick that Ortiz semi-blocks.

Ortiz has Shahajian pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Ortiz pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Shahajian tumbling to the mat - Ortiz dives into Shahajian's guard.
