PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Franklyn Vance (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Meyer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Franklyn Vance!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, John Meyer!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Steven Brown and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Meyer shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Vance is trying to defend but Meyer finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Meyer not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Meyer throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Meyer is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Vance still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Vance has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
Meyer tries to buck Vance off but Vance is having none of it.
Meyer sneaks back into half guard.

Meyer is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Vance pulls his head out easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Meyer is looking to improve his position.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Vance tries to stand but can't do so whilst Meyer controls his leg.
Meyer has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Meyer actively working from the bottom here.
Meyer tries to get to full guard but Vance has control of the leg.

Vance stands up and beckons Meyer to join him on the feet.

Meyer darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Meyer is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Vance looks like he's trying to stand up.
Meyer throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Meyer missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Meyer is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Meyer stops Vance from getting back to his feet.

Meyer is working for a kimura but Vance is defending it quite comfortably.

Vance is defending against the submission attempts here by Meyer.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Vance tries to bum rush Meyer with a series of wild strikes but Meyer uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Vance throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Meyer.
Vance misses the jab.
Meyer shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Vance pinned against the cage. Vance gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Meyer takes the fight into the clinch.
Meyer fails to pull guard.

Meyer pulls guard.
Vance wants to stand but Meyer has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Meyer had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Vance defends it easily.

Meyer looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Vance knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Meyer on the ground.
Meyer looks gassed!

Meyer working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Vance doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Vance manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Vance gets to his feet - Meyer follows without any prompting.

A big left from Vance misses.

Meyer shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Meyer was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Vance is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Meyer throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Meyer punching from mount but Vance doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Meyer throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Meyer is working for a guillotine from mount but Vance frees his head quite easily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Vance wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Meyer.

Vance is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Meyer unloading with bombs!
Meyer looking to ground and pound but Vance is blocking nicely.

Meyer moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Vance has worked his arm free - good work by Vance!
Vance is looking to get back to his feet here but Meyer is keeping cool and he's managed to take Vance's back.

That's six minutes gone in the round.
Vance looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands.
Vance covering up well and avoiding damage.
Meyer throwing lazy shots from the back mount that aren't doing any damage.

Vance is in a bad position with Meyer working for a choke. Vance manages to spin nicely into guard and the danger is over for the moment.

Vance has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Meyer is proving hard to escape from.

That's seven minutes gone in the round.

Meyer is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Vance rolls with it to try and escape but Meyer cranks on the arm and Vance is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
