PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Antonio Kalcic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jaakko Rauhala (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Rauhala's choice of entrance music: Blue moon. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Antonio Kalcic!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jaakko Rauhala!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Ren Mimura and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rauhala has a takedown stuffed.
Rauhala keeps the fight on the outside.
Kalcic misses with a few strikes there.
Kalcic shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Rauhala clinches up with Kalcic and pushes him back against the cage.
Rauhala lands a knee to the head.
Kalcic wants a takedown.

Kalcic manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Rauhala really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kalcic. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Kalcic throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Rauhala escapes and throws Kalcic's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Kalcic is trying to control Rauhala's posture but Rauhala avoids it.

Kalcic is looking for a sweep.
The referee asks Rauhala politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Rauhala prefers to stall for the moment though.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kalcic is trying to control Rauhala's posture but Rauhala avoids it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kalcic tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Rauhala presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Rauhala tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kalcic has given up his back here.
Kalcic might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Kalcic is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

Rauhala is looking to control Kalcic but Kalcic is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Rauhala doesn't have the hooks in and Kalcic manages to turn into his guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Kalcic is looking to clinch but Rauhala is avoiding it.
Kalcic misses with a two punch combination.

Kalcic scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

and Rauhala holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Kalcic works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Kalcic postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Rauhala is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Kalcic, into his guard.

Kalcic escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Rauhala gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Antonio Kalcic will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Rauhala stuffs the takedown attempt from Kalcic. Kalcic gets slowly back to his feet.
Rauhala closes this distance looking for a takedown but Kalcic circles away.
Jaakko Rauhala seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kalcic moves in looking to clinch but Rauhala pushes him off.
Kalcic looks frusrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Kalcic looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Rauhala is fending him off so far but Kalcic persists. Nope, Rauhala circles away and we're back to standing.

Rauhala will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Kalcic tries to bum rush Rauhala with a series of wild strikes but Rauhala uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Rauhala has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Kalcic is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Rauhala is trying to stall.

Kalcic has Rauhala pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Kalcic pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Rauhala tumbling to the mat - Kalcic dives into Rauhala's guard.

Kalcic stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rauhala swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Rauhala misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Kalcic throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Rauhala shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Rauhala showed some decent athleticism there.
Kalcic flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Kalcic has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

I really don't envy Kalcic right now.
Rauhala is not going to allow Kalcic to sit and survive in this position.
Kalcic is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

That was a close second round but I would say that Antonio Kalcic will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Rauhala moves into the clinch.
Kalcic is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Rauhala pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Rauhala drops down looking for an ankle pick but Kalcic pulls his leg out and moves away.
Kalcic misses with a double jab

and Rauhala counters with a single leg into guard. Kalcic didn't expect that.

Kalcic looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Rauhala slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Kalcic tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Kalcic working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Rauhala has passed into half guard!

Kalcic is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Rauhala takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Kalcic wants to improve his position but Rauhala is controlling well.
Jaakko Rauhala has got the better of the ground game so far.
Kalcic makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Kalcic.
Kalcic looking to hit a scissor sweep but Rauhala is one step ahead there.
Kalcic wants to control the position but Rauhala says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Kalcic misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Rauhala throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kalcic's waist but Kalcic gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Rauhala off to one side.
Antonio Kalcic has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jaakko Rauhala.

Kalcic throws his legs up looking for a submission but Rauhala uses it to pass to side control.

Kalcic is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Rauhala jumps into side control!
Rauhala has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Jaakko Rauhala has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Rauhala wants to control the pace but Kalcic is squirming around nicely.
Rauhala is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jaakko Rauhala comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Kalcic has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
