PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mini Bard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and pj lamma (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bard kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is It's Catching Up (NoMeansNo). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mini Bard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, pj lamma!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Daniel Blasius and Albert Achterberg.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bard lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Bard throws a lazy right hand but lamma sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Bard swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Bard lands a left and a right that send lamma crashing to the mat, dazed. Bard thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

lamma is rocked!

It looks like pj lamma has been cut.
lamma shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Bard but Bard pushes him off and we're back to square one.
lamma is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Bard.
Bard lets loose with a powerful body kick. lamma will feel that in the morning.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Bard throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Bard lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but lamma circles away quickly and effectively.

Some bone on bone action there as lamma checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

lamma shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. lamma showed some decent athleticism there.

lamma is trying to work for a kimura but Bard is defending well.
lamma is looking to advance position but Bard won't allow it.
lamma thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

lamma wants to work for an arm triangle but Bard is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Bard pulls out of a head kick attempt.

and lamma counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Bard!

lamma is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Bard can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Bard somehow manages to escape the mount and get back to his feet!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

lamma tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

lamma pushes down on Bard's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Bard wants to get back to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

lamma is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

lamma is working for a kimura but Bard is defending it quite comfortably.

Bard pushes lamma off and gets back to his feet.

No joy there for Bard, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

pj lamma showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

lamma throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Bard's waist but Bard gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing lamma off to one side.

A frustrated look appears on Bard's face as he tries to break the clinch.
With the fighters up against the cage, Bard throws an elbow but misses.
Bard is looking to break free of the clinch but lamma has double underhooks.
lamma has Bard pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Bard manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Mini Bard has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of pj lamma.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Bard gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
