Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jake Evans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jose Cortez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jake Evans!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jose Cortez!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Bruno Hogan and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Evans buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Cortez fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Evans shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Cortez counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Evans has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Cortez is working away from the top position though.
Evans is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Evans trying to control from the bottom.
Cortez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Evans keeps working.
Evans tries to get to full guard but Cortez has control of the leg.
Cortez stalling.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cortez is keen to just control but Evans is a slippery customer.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Cortez wants to clinch.
Evans has his takedown stuffed

and Cortez counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Cortez controlling from the top position.

Evans is working an open guard so Cortez takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Evans shoots and misses

and Cortez counters with a shoot takedown. Evans fights it but they end up in guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jake Evans. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Cortez drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Cortez jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Evans working a defensive guard here.
Cortez wants to control from the top but Evans keeps moving.
Cortez is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Evans has a closed guard, preventing Cortez from standing up.
Evans is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Evans throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Evans wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Cortez is now in half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Evans tries for a takedown but Cortez circles away easily

and Cortez counters with a nice double leg into side control. Evans won't be happy with that.
Evans is breathing heavily.
Cortez is looking to take a break and control but Evans is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Cortez slows the pace down.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
You can see the frustration on Evans's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jose Cortez dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Evans swats away the attempt to clinch by Cortez.
Cortez misses with a leg kick

and Evans decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Cortez's guard.
Evans postures up.
Evans missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Cortez working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Evans doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Cortez is tightening it up a little... Evans has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Evans reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Evans taps out! nice BJJ there by Cortez!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:44 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Jose Cortez!
