Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between James Sullivan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rene Schweidler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Schweidler's choice of entrance music: DREAM EVIL. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, James Sullivan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rene Schweidler!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, David Schapiro and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Schweidler lands with a hook. Sullivan tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Sullivan with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Sullivan looks for a takedown but Schweidler sprawls well.
Schweidler jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Sullivan is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Schweidler.
Schweidler throws a jab when Sullivan was well out of range.
Nice defenses there by Schweidler.
Schweidler thuds his right hand into Sullivan's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Sullivan changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Schweidler tries to avoid it but Sullivan manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Schweidler to the ground. Schweidler escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Schweidler scores with a decent looking hook.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Sullivan fails with an attempt to clinch.
Sullivan on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
A combination from Schweidler does no damage.
Schweidler displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Sullivan.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Sullivan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sullivan will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Sullivan has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Schweidler is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Sullivan is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Schweidler gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Sullivan is breathing heavily.
Schweidler is trying to force a seperation but Sullivan has the dominant position.

Schweidler breaks from the clinch.
Sullivan shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Schweidler as he jumps to the side.
Sullivan misses with a takedown attempt - Schweidler sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Schweidler lands with an uppercut that bounces Sullivan off the cage and back into rage.

Sullivan misses with a knee strike.
Sullivan avoids a wild elbow strike from Schweidler.
Sullivan throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Schweidler blocks it with crossed arms.
A bit of stalling here from Schweidler.

Schweidler pulls guard effortlessly.
Sullivan tries to stand but Schweidler is controlling from the bottom.
Schweidler looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Schweidler is pulling down on Sullivan's head. It's preventing any offense from Sullivan, at least for the moment.
Sullivan trying to stand up but can't free himself from Schweidler's guard.
Schweidler controls Sullivan momentarily but Sullivan frees himself.

Sullivan loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Schweidler can do anything to dispel that myth.
Sullivan has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Schweidler is proving hard to escape from.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Schweidler clinches up against the cage.
Sullivan wants a takedown.
Sullivan tries to land a knee to the head but Schweidler blocks with his arms.
Sullivan goes for a takedown in the clinch but Schweidler prevents it.

Schweidler pulls guard effortlessly.

Sullivan drops back, looking for a kneebar! Schweidler looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Schweidler looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Schweidler!

Sullivan sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Schweidler connects with a nice short shot to Sullivan's temple.

Schweidler looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Sullivan moves into full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Schweidler wants to control from the top but Sullivan keeps moving.

Schweidler lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Schweidler got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sullivan has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Schweidler has managed to get both his arms back between Sullivan's legs - danger averted.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Schweidler jumps guard but Sullivan stands there with Schweidler around his waist. Schweidler gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Sullivan has Schweidler pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Schweidler manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Sullivan tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Schweidler throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Sullivan misses with a takedown attempt
and Schweidler makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Sullivan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Schweidler jabs Sullivan right on the nose. Sullivan blinks but takes it well.
Sullivan takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Schweidler scores with a sloppy right hand. Sullivan should have avoided that one.
Schweidler rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Sullivan moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Sullivan walks into a straight right hand from Schweidler.
Sullivan has his takedown stuffed
and Schweidler counters with a right hand to the body.

Schweidler stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.


Sullivan is rocked!
Rene Schweidler is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Schweidler throws a hook but Sullivan avoids it easily.
Oh Sullivan is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Schweidler dances in with a quick combination. Sullivan is being worked over with jabs and crosses. Oooh, a right straight from Schweidler snaps Sullivan's head back. Sullivan stumbles backwards against the cage. Schweidler steps forward and delivers a right cross that connects with Sullivan's jaw, simultaneously knocking him out and sending his mouthpiece into the crowd! There's a worthy souvenir for the fans. This one is over folks. Sullivan just didn't come prepared.
