PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Thunder Lightning (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcus Banks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Thunder Lightning!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Marcus Banks!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Chris Downing and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Banks blocks the body kick.
Lightning looks for a takedown but Banks sprawls well.

Lightning darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Lightning is working for a kimura but Banks is defending it quite comfortably.
Banks flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Lightning frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Lightning really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Lightning looking to control but Banks is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Banks bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Banks not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lightning trying to control the position.
Lightning keeping full guard, as Banks tries to pass.
Banks won't allow Lightning to sweep him here.
Banks trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Banks passes Lightning's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Lightning is breathing heavily.

Banks escapes and gets back to his feet.

Banks clinches up with Lightning and pushes him back against the cage.

Banks manages to break the clinch.
Lightning closes the distance but Banks moves to the side

and Banks counters with a nice double leg into side control. Lightning won't be happy with that.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Banks controlling the position from side mount.
Lightning pushes Banks away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Banks gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Lightning wants to control but Banks postures up.
Banks taking a breather here.
Lightning is looking for a sweep.
Banks controlling the position from side mount.
Lightning takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Banks controlling the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Banks scoring with punches and elbows.

Banks stands up and beckons Lightning to his feet.
Banks is looking to clinch but Lightning is avoiding it.

Banks gets a clinch.
Banks holding his opponent close, against the cage.
Banks scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Lightning tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Banks breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
A solid leg kick lands there for Banks.

Banks moves into the clinch.
Lightning lands a nice elbow from the clinch.

Lightning drags the fight down to the ground.
Banks stopping the sweep attempt from Lightning.
Lightning trying to control the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Lightning wants to control the position but Banks says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Banks controlling the pace.
Lightning wants to control but Banks is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Banks connects with a nice short shot to Lightning's temple.
Lightning looks like he's trying to stand up.
Banks throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Banks is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Lightning is trying to control but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marcus Banks dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Lightning feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Banks's calf.
Banks fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Banks doesn't manage to clinch there - Lightning circles away.
Lightning tries for a takedown but Banks circles away easily

and Banks counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Lightning's guard now.

Lightning working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Banks doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Lightning is tightening it up a little... Banks has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Banks reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Banks taps out! nice BJJ there by Lightning!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:41 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Thunder Lightning!
