PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ricardinho Gabriel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Humberto Falcao (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ricardinho Gabriel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Humberto Falcao!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Daniel Cesar and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Falcao feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Falcao is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Gabriel working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Falcao doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Falcao manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Falcao postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Falcao controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gabriel has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Gabriel's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Falcao is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Despite being in the dominant position, Humberto Falcao just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

and Falcao counters with a single leg into guard. Gabriel didn't expect that.

Gabriel has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Falcao finds it's way round the side to connect with Gabriel's head.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

A nice leg kick lands there from Gabriel.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Humberto Falcao dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Falcao fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Gabriel shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Falcao napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Falcao manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Well, if Falcao is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
