Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mario Betoli (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brian Hawk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Betoli's entrance music is Mario theme. A fine choice. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Robert Twigg and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hawk closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Betoli did well to prevent Hawk getting side control.

Betoli looking for submissions off his back.

Betoli is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Hawk pulls his head out easily.
Hawk is keen to just control but Betoli is a slippery customer.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Betoli looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Hawk is working for a kimura but Betoli is defending it quite comfortably.
Betoli makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Betoli.
Betoli tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Betoli is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Hawk defends well.

Betoli escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hawk gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Betoli throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Hawk trying to control the position from guard on top but Betoli is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hawk working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

Betoli looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Hawk stands and throws Betoli's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Hawk scores with punches from side control.
Betoli manages to get back to half guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Hawk looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Betoli with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Betoli is breathing heavily.
Hawk looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Betoli is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Hawk pulls his head out easily.
Hawk looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Betoli looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Hawk looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Hawk is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Betoli is just riding it out for now. Hawk eventually gives up the hold.
Betoli is not content to let Hawk control the position.
Hawk looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Betoli with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Hawk wants to take a breather but Betoli is having none of it.

Betoli actively working from the bottom here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hawk working over Betoli with some ground and pound. Betoli looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Hawk lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Betoli slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Betoli is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Hawk is posturing up here but Betoli has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Hawk tries to roll out but it's too tight and Hawk has to tap! Slick submission there by Betoli!
