Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, James DiGriz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ainakea Onakea!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
DiGriz displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Onakea throws out the jab.
DiGriz swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Onakea throws a lazy right hand but DiGriz sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
DiGriz walks into a straight right hand from Onakea.


It looks like James DiGriz has been cut.

DiGriz clinches up with Onakea and pushes him back against the ropes.
Onakea wants to get back to striking at distance but DiGriz won't allow it.
DiGriz tries for a takedown. No joy.
DiGriz blocking some punches.
DiGriz is working for takedown but Onakea is calmly controlling the position for now.
Onakea can't break the clinch.
DiGriz has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Onakea is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Onakea has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of DiGriz is proving hard to escape from.

DiGriz escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Onakea gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

DiGriz looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Onakea passes into side control.
Onakea wants to control but DiGriz is keeping him busy.
Onakea really doesn't want to stay on the ground with DiGriz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
DiGriz manages to work his way to half guard, despite Onakea's best efforts.
DiGriz is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
DiGriz is working hard here to advance position.

That was a close round but I would say that James DiGriz will probably get the nod.

Onakea takes a swing at DiGriz's ribcage but misses.
Onakea misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Onakea blocks a low kick nicely.
Ainakea Onakea seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Onakea scores with a hook to the body. DiGriz takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

Onakea lands a left and a right that send DiGriz crashing to the mat, dazed. Onakea thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Onakea clinches but DiGriz breaks the clinch

and DiGriz counters by clinching up.

Onakea wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Onakea looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

DiGriz pulls Onakea into guard.

DiGriz manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Onakea manages to get himself to full guard.

DiGriz has gone for a leg lock! Onakea slips out almost immediately though and dives into DiGriz's guard.
DiGriz is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Ainakea Onakea showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! DiGriz's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!


No joy there for Onakea, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Onakea tries to close the distance and clinch but DiGriz swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Onakea wants to clinch up but DiGriz keeps it at a distance.
Onakea throws a right and a left that both miss.
Onakea looks to clinch

and DiGriz counters with a takedown into side control.

DiGriz tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no DiGriz has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

DiGriz working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Onakea is trying to improve his position.

DiGriz goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Onakea rolls with the submission and now he's on top in DiGriz's guard! Nice work there by Onakea!

DiGriz has a hand on Onakea's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Onakea takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
DiGriz is wriggling around trying to escape.
DiGriz tries to hold on but Onakea pushes him away.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
DiGriz working to try and regain half guard.
DiGriz sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Onakea wants to get back to his feet.
DiGriz wants to sweep but Onakea has passed to side control!
DiGriz is looking to regain half guard here but Onakea keeps moving and retains side control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

James DiGriz showed his dominance in that final round.
