The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Richards fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. St Pierre sprawls well initially but Richards persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Richards takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Richards passes the guard and advances to mount!
St Pierre knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Richards on the ground.
St Pierre is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

Richards is going oldschool here, as he tries to force St Pierre to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so St Pierre shrugs it off.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Richards throws a head kick that misses.
Richards has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
St Pierre lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
St Pierre scores to the head and body with a nice combination!

St Pierre has Richards up against the cage in a clinch.
Richards gets underhooks to prevent St Pierre's takedown attempt.
St Pierre tries to score a body lock takedown but Richards shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jonathan St Pierre. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Richards jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as St Pierre walks away with a smile on his face. Richards gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Mike Richards seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Richards tries for a takedown but St Pierre sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

St Pierre misses with a two punch combination.
Richards closes the distance looking to clinch
and St Pierre counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
