PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Dan Cruise (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wayne Banner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cruise's entrance music is here comes the boom. A fine choice. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dan Cruise!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wayne Banner!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Frank Dennis and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cruise doesn't manage to clinch there - Banner circles away.
Cruise lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Banner circles away quickly and effectively.
Cruise fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Cruise fails in his attempt to clinch.
Dan Cruise seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Banner closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Cruise to the mat! Cruise manages to get full guard.
Cruise wants to sweep but no luck.
Banner postures up.
Cruise avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Cruise preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Banner is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Banner wants to pass the guard but Cruise is keeping the position.
Cruise looking to hit a scissor sweep but Banner is one step ahead there.

Cruise can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Banner controls the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Cruise misses with a series of wild punches.

Cruise bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Banner is not content to let Cruise control the position.
Cruise tries to stand but Banner is controlling his head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Banner manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Banner wants to improve his position but Cruise is controlling well.

Banner is controlling Cruise's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Banner moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Cruise is breathing heavily.
Cruise pushing down on Banner's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Banner is controlling Cruise's trapped leg to prevent Cruise from advancing to side control.
Cruise looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Banner keeping hold of Cruise's head, controlling as best he can.
Banner regains full guard. Nicely done.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Cruise stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Banner swivels though and keeps the full guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Banner is on top in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wayne Banner dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Cruise is looking to chop away at Banner's legs.

Banner looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Cruise has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Banner is working away from the top position though.
Cruise really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Banner keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Banner's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Banner is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Banner lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Cruise is not content to let Banner control the position.
Banner slips a nice elbow through Cruise's hands, connecting with Cruise's forehead.
Well, if Banner is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Banner is trying to work for a kimura but Cruise is defending well.
Banner keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Despite being in the dominant position, Wayne Banner just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Cruise fails with the takedown

and Banner counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Banner.
Cruise tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Banner just stands there and leans against the cage.

Banner is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Cruise can't fight it off and eventually Banner manages to take the fight to the floor. Cruise looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Banner postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Banner sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Cruise's guard.
Banner tries to pass the half guard into mount. Cruise knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Banner stops Cruise from getting back to his feet.
Banner drops an elbow to the side of Cruise's head.
Banner scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Banner connects with a nice short shot to Cruise's temple.
Banner seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Cruise is rocked!
Cruise on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Oh Cruise is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Banner seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Cruise seems to have got his legs back now.
Banner scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Banner content to control rather than advance.

Banner is working for a submission of some sort.
Banner scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Banner wants to pass the guard but Cruise is defending well.
Banner looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Cruise with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wayne Banner showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!



Banner closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Banner is looking to take a break and control but Cruise is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Banner is landing with some decent strikes but Cruise is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Cruise is in a horrible position here. Banner smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Banner connects with a bit shot that sees Cruise covering up! More strikes from Banner and the referee jumps in to stop the fight! Banner is our winner by TKO!
