PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Greek Gyros (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yazan Al Naber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gyros comes into the arena with Greek Gyros blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Greek Gyros!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Yazan Al Naber!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gyros shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Al Naber as he avoids it easily.
Gyros looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Al Naber is fending him off so far but Gyros persists. Nope, Al Naber circles away and we're back to standing.
Gyros shoots in looking for a takedown. Al Naber tries to sprawl out of it but Gyros keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Al Naber manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Greek Gyros. That's going to take a lot out of him.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
The ground and pound from Al Naber seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Al Naber decides to stand up, so the ref orders Gyros to his feet.

and Al Naber counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Gyros will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Gyros is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

and Al Naber counters with a series of strikes. Gyros will be more careful next time no doubt.
Gyros fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Al Naber avoids it really well and circles away.
Gyros throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Al Naber's waist but Al Naber gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gyros off to one side.
Gyros shoots in but no luck this time.
A combination from Gyros does no damage.

Gyros fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Al Naber avoids it really well and circles away.
Gyros changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Al Naber tries to avoid it but Gyros manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Al Naber to the ground. Al Naber escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yazan Al Naber dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

That was a close second round but I would say that Greek Gyros will probably get the nod.

Al Naber stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gyros swivels though and keeps the full guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Gyros has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Gyros seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Al Naber for as long as he can get away with.
