PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Huggie McCuddler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Huggie McCuddler has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Huggie McCuddler seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Huggie McCuddler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Matt Hughes!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Gwen Towbar and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McCuddler tries to clinch up but Hughes circles away and keeps his distance.
Hughes stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Hughes wants it to stay on the feet.

Hughes rushes McCuddler and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

McCuddler pulls Hughes into guard.

McCuddler looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

McCuddler had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Hughes defends it easily.

Hughes thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

McCuddler is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Hughes is aware though and is defending well.
Hughes seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Hughes trying to control but McCuddler is working from the bottom.
Hughes stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. McCuddler swivels though and keeps the full guard.

McCuddler is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Hughes pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. McCuddler is keeping the position for now.

That's one minute gone in the round.

McCuddler is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Hughes postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Hughes controlling from the top position.
Hughes must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Hughes lands a couple of decent looking shots.

McCuddler is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Hughes is aware though and is defending well.
McCuddler is breathing heavily.
Hughes slips nicely into half guard.
Hughes looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Hughes is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Hughes winds up and cracks McCuddler with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
McCuddler gets full guard.
McCuddler preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Hughes thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
McCuddler looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hughes is one step ahead there.

McCuddler escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hughes gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Hughes stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. McCuddler swivels though and keeps the full guard.

McCuddler looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Hughes postures up in McCuddler's guard and throws a big left but McCuddler blocks it.
Hughes tries to free his leg and advance position but McCuddler is retaining full guard.
Hughes landing some decent shots from guard.
McCuddler keeping full guard, as Hughes tries to pass.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Hughes got a little sloppy there for a moment and McCuddler has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hughes has managed to get both his arms back between McCuddler's legs - danger averted.
Hughes trying to control the position from guard on top but McCuddler is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hughes is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Hughes thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Hughes lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Hughes pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. McCuddler is keeping the position for now.
Hughes trying to control but McCuddler is working from the bottom.
Hughes is looking to work some ground and pound but McCuddler has wrist control.
Hughes wants to control from the top but McCuddler keeps moving.
Hughes really doesn't want to stay on the ground with McCuddler. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
McCuddler throws the kick towards the body but Hughes avoids it.
McCuddler is trying hard to land a takedown here. Hughes sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Hughes decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
McCuddler moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Hughes scoring with punches to the head and body.

McCuddler looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Hughes scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
McCuddler looking for a sweep. Not yet McCuddler, not yet.
Hughes postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Hughes slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
McCuddler is working to avoid the ground and pound but Hughes connects with a decent elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Huggie McCuddler dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


McCuddler tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Hughes decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in McCuddler's guard.
Hughes stopping the sweep attempt from McCuddler.

Hughes is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Hughes postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

McCuddler pushes a forearm under Hughes's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Hughes is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:48 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Huggie McCuddler!
