The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Houseman rushes Cruz and presses him up against the cage.
Cruz is trying to break the clinch but Houseman is controlling him.
Houseman throws an elbow but it's blocked.

Houseman has Cruz pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Houseman pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Cruz tumbling to the mat - Houseman dives into Cruz's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Houseman stops Cruz from standing up.
Cruz keeping moving, preventing Houseman from controlling successfully.
Cruz wants to sweep here but Houseman controlling him for the moment.
Cruz wants to get back to his feet but Houseman is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Houseman wants to stand but Cruz has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Houseman distracts Cruz with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Houseman wants to control from the top but Cruz keeps moving.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Houseman uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Cruz.
Houseman blocks a low kick nicely.

Houseman moves out of range of the body kick.
Cruz throws a head kick but Houseman moves out of range.
Houseman connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Cruz misses with the combination.
Houseman looks to land a combination but Cruz avoids it well.
Cruz misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Cruz connects with a jab.
Houseman tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Cruz paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Cruz stuffs the takedown attempt from Houseman. Houseman gets slowly back to his feet.

Cruz looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Cruz wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Houseman comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Houseman jumps guard but Cruz stands there with Houseman around his waist. Houseman gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Cruz is pressed up against the cage. Houseman has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Cruz down to the mat. Cruz avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tyler Houseman. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cruz throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Houseman.

It looks like Tyler Houseman has been cut.
Cruz connects with a jab and follows up with a big overhand right! Oh that's hurt Houseman! He's out on his feet! Cruz rushes in and drops Houseman with another big right hand, forcing the referee to stop the fight!
