PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Travis Mathews (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rick Cade (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mathews is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. Rick Cade acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Travis Mathews!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Rick Cade!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Patrick Alders and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cade tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Mathews looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Mathews has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Cade.
Cade throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mathews's waist but Mathews gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Cade off to one side.
Cade shoots in and drives through. Mathews sprawls well.

Cade drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Cade stands up and waves to Mathews to follow him.
Cade shoots in looking for a takedown. Mathews tries to sprawl out of it but Cade keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Mathews manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Travis Mathews has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rick Cade.
Mathews keeps the fight on the outside.

Cade thows a body kick. Mathews tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Cade shoots in for a double leg but Mathews sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Cade misses with a head kick.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Cade is defended easily by Mathews.
Cade shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Mathews defends it nicely.

Cade lands a jab to Mathews's midsection.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Cade throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.

Cade looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Mathews pushes Cade off looking to stand but Cade dives back in and keeps control.

Cade misses with a takedown attempt - Mathews sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Cade tries to clinch up but Mathews circles away and keeps his distance.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Cade shoots in for a takedown but Mathews shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Cade misses with a takedown attempt - Mathews sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Cade closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Cade lands in his opponent's guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Cade stands up from guard. Let's bang!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rick Cade dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Cade misses with a head kick.
Cade looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Cade fails with an attempt to clinch.
Mathews stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mathews wants it to stay on the feet.
Mathews could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cade shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Mathews's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Mathews keeping moving, preventing Cade from controlling successfully.

Cade wants to pass the guard but Mathews is keeping the position.
Mathews preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Mathews knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Cade on the ground.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Cade trying to control but Mathews is working from the bottom.
Mathews wants to stand up but Cade is controlling him.
Mathews avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Mathews wants to get back to his feet but Cade is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Nice sprawl there from Mathews as Cade shoots in.
Travis Mathews has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rick Cade.

Cade gets a takedown into half guard.
Cade is trying to control. Mathews wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Mathews blocking the ground and pound attempt from Cade.
Cade wants to pass to mount but Mathews is defending the position.
Cade is stalling here. Mathews is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Cade seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Mathews has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Cade closes this distance looking for a takedown but Mathews circles away.

Cade shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Cade was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Cade lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cade with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Mathews is squirming around, avoiding Cade's attempts to control the action.

Cade content just to control the position here.
Cade trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Cade moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Mathews has worked his arm free - good work by Mathews!

Cade wants to control for a moment but Mathews uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
Mathews is refusing to be controlled, as Cade sits in half guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Cade is stalling here. Mathews is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Cade seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Mathews has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Travis Mathews has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Rick Cade is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well Cade has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
