PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Artum Ruska (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marin Zeus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Zeus's choice of entrance music: Step Up by Drowning Pool. Marin Zeus told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ruska scoring well with a low kick there.
Zeus fails to land the takedown.
Ruska moves out of range of the body kick from Zeus.
Ruska scores with a head kick.

It looks like Marin Zeus has been cut.
A chopping leg kick lands by Ruska.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Zeus.
Ruska feints and then cracks Zeus's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Zeus down.
Zeus looks gassed!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Ruska connects with a single shot there.
Ruska scores with a leg kick.
Ruska throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Ruska pushes Zeus away with a front kick.

Ruska bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Ruska controlling his opponent.
Ruska looking to control but Zeus is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Zeus tries to reverse the position but Ruska maintains control.

Zeus defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Ruska.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ruska connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

Ruska looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Ruska wants to control the pace but Zeus is squirming around nicely.
A nice elbow there by Ruska.

Ruska is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Zeus can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Ruska is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Zeus is surviving well by controlling Ruska's body position as best he can.

Zeus is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Ruska is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Zeus to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Zeus shrugs it off.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Ruska lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Zeus tries to hold on but Ruska postures up.

Zeus is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Ruska wants to control but instead Zeus manages to regain half guard.
Zeus tries to roll over but Ruska keeps him under control.

Ruska is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Ruska is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Zeus gets back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Zeus doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Zeus is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Ruska pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Zeus is keeping the position for now.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Ruska advances position into side control!
Zeus is looking for a sweep.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Artum Ruska dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Marin Zeus's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Ruska shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Zeus manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Ruska wants to free his trapped foot but Zeus is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Ruska is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Zeus wants to improve his position but Ruska is controlling well.
Zeus gets back to full guard.
Zeus is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Ruska passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Zeus manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Zeus wants to stand but Ruska has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Ruska regains full guard. Nicely done.
Zeus trying to control the position from guard on top but Ruska is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Ruska has his feet on Zeus's thighs here. He's pushed Zeus off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Zeus screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
