The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
iupati tries to bum rush Lashley with a series of wild strikes but Lashley uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
iupati misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Lashley.
iupati throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Lashley stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Lashley will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Lashley shoots in for a takedown but iupati shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

It looks like Jamal Lashley has been cut.

Lashley lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Lashley has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Lashley blocks iupati's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
iupati is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
iupati really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lashley. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Lashley postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. iupati looks a forlorn figure.

Lashley has control of iupati's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and iupati regains control of the situation pretty easily.
iupati tries to buck Lashley off but he can't manage it.

Lashley jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but iupati manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Lashley wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by iupati, who protects the arm well.

iupati pushes Lashley off looking to stand but Lashley dives back in and keeps control.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Lashley connects with a nice short shot to iupati's temple.
Lashley stops iupati from getting back to his feet.
Lashley uses his free foot to push down on iupati's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for iupati.
iupati wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
iupati is squirming around, avoiding Lashley's attempts to control the action.
iupati has given up his back here. Will Lashley look for the submission or keep pounding away?
Lashley tries to get the hooks in deep but iupati pushed the leg off.

Lashley is persistently looking for the submission but iupati is defending it well.

Mike iupati seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Lashley throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around iupati's waist but iupati gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Lashley off to one side.
