PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Colby Henderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bryan Bernie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Bryan Bernie was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Colby Henderson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bryan Bernie!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Alec Ball and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bernie has Henderson up against the cage in a clinch.

Bernie breaks the clinch.
Henderson misses with a looping right.
Henderson pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Henderson lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Bernie circles away quickly and effectively.
Bernie bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Bernie clinches up with Henderson and pushes him back against the cage.
Henderson wants to break free but Bernie has control.
Bernie is looking to control Henderson's arms but Henderson gets an underhook and turns him. Now Bernie has his back to the cage.
Bernie lands a shot to the body.
Henderson tries to break free but Bernie pushes him back against the cage.

Bernie jumps into guard, dragging Henderson to the mat.
Bernie trying to keep a closed guard but Henderson is proving a slippery customer.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bernie is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Bernie looking to hit a scissor sweep but Henderson is one step ahead there.

Bernie looking for subs off his back but Henderson has passed one foot through into half guard.
Henderson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bernie on the ground.

Bernie actively working from the bottom here.
Bernie is looking to improve his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bernie slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Bernie isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Henderson stacks Bernie on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Henderson!
Bernie looking for a sweep but Henderson has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Bernie tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Bernie sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Bernie wants to improve his position but Henderson is controlling well.
Bernie is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Bernie gets back to full guard.
Bernie is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Bernie trying to pass the guard but Henderson defending well.

Bernie seems to be working for a kimura but Henderson defends the submission attempt.
Bernie looks gassed!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Bernie is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Bernie is pressing down on Henderson's thigh, looking to free his foot. Henderson is holding on for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bryan Bernie dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Bernie moves into the clinch.

Bernie breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Colby Henderson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Henderson misses with a straight right.
Bernie blocks a jab.
Henderson swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Henderson tries to bum rush Bernie with a series of wild strikes but Bernie uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Henderson connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.


It looks like Bryan Bernie has been cut.
Henderson misses with a straight right.

Bernie has Henderson up against the cage in a clinch.
Bernie manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Bernie pulls guard.

Bernie looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Henderson passes into side control.
Bernie manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Bernie gets back to full guard.
Henderson won't allow Bernie to sweep him here.

Henderson stands up and waves to Bernie to follow him.
Colby Henderson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Bernie keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Bernie takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Henderson misses with an uppercut. Bernie saw that one coming.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Henderson misses with an attempted mid kick.
Bernie blocks the body kick.
Henderson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Bernie moves into the clinch successfully.
Bernie is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Bernie effectively controlling the action here.
Bernie is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Henderson wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Bernie pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Henderson misses with a straight right.
Colby Henderson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Henderson swinging wildly here.

Bernie scores a takedown into full mount!

Bernie working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Henderson looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Bernie! Submission of the night perhaps?
