0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Ricky Steamboat! The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Andrew Berry and James Ackerman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Saarinen is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Steamboat. Steamboat lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Saarinen shoots in for a takedown but Steamboat shows good takedown defense. Steamboat closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Steamboat looks to land a strike but Saarinen avoids it nicely and regains full guard. Steamboat trying to control but Saarinen is working from the bottom. Saarinen looking to hit a scissor sweep but Steamboat is one step ahead there. Saarinen is working hard here to advance position. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Saarinen is trying to keep Steamboat in close.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. That's one minute gone in the round. Steamboat changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Saarinen looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground. Saarinen shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Steamboat pinned against the cage. Steamboat gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Saarinen pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Steamboat shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Steamboat showed some decent athleticism there. Saarinen slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Saarinen is trying to keep Steamboat in close.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Steamboat lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Saarinen at a distance.

That's six minutes gone in the round. Steamboat throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Saarinen. Steamboat lands a with a good body shot. Saarinen tries to clinch but Steamboat moves out of range. No joy there for Steamboat, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Saarinen has his takedown stuffed and Steamboat counters with a nice double leg into guard. Saarinen manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Saarinen is trying to stand up but he's being controlled by his opponent. Saarinen working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Saarinen wants to control the pace but Steamboat is squirming around nicely. Steamboat sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Saarinen is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Steamboat doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Saarinen. Steamboat is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Steamboat is staying active underneath Saarinen, who seems content to just control the action from this position. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Steamboat can do anything to dispel that myth. Steamboat has a hand on Saarinen's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Saarinen takes advantage of the position though and mounts him! Saarinen wants to control the pace but Steamboat is squirming around nicely. Steamboat keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
That's eight minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Steamboat tries to improve his position but Saarinen has taken his back! Saarinen has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Steamboat tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Saarinen pushes Steamboat away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!
