PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Levi Haymaker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gesias Carneiro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Haymaker comes to the cage accompanied by Free Bird. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gesias Carneiro!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Anthony Taglia and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Haymaker tries to clinch but Carneiro moves out of range.

Haymaker tries for a takedown but Carneiro sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Carneiro feints and as Haymaker raises his hands in defense, Carneiro changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Carneiro wants to pass the guard but Haymaker is keeping the position.
Carneiro controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Carneiro passes Haymaker's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Carneiro prevents Haymaker from improving his position.

Carneiro seems to be looking for submissions.
Haymaker is staying active underneath Carneiro, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Haymaker has his hands clasped together around Carneiro's back. He's all about the action.

Carneiro lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Haymaker is not content to let Carneiro control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Carneiro might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Haymaker kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Carneiro is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Haymaker is just riding it out for now. Carneiro eventually gives up the hold.
Well, if Carneiro is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Carneiro with a couple of short strikes.
Carneiro wants to control the pace but Haymaker is squirming around nicely.
Carneiro lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Carneiro with the ground and pound from mount.
Carneiro with some aggressive grappling here, looking for the finish.
Haymaker slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Carneiro passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Haymaker!
Haymaker knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Carneiro on the ground.
Carneiro wants to control but Haymaker has made it back to half guard. Nice work.
Haymaker is looking for a sweep. Carneiro is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gesias Carneiro dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Haymaker fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

and Haymaker counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Carneiro is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Carneiro is on top in guard.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Carneiro trying to control the position from guard on top but Haymaker is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Haymaker looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Gesias Carneiro has got the better of the ground game so far.

Carneiro stands up over Haymaker, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Carneiro slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Haymaker gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Carneiro works his way to his opponent's back.
Will Carneiro go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?

Despite being in the dominant position, Gesias Carneiro just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Carneiro wants to clinch.
Haymaker is looking to slow Carneiro down with leg kicks.

Haymaker closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Carneiro is pressing down on Haymaker's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Carneiro throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Carneiro looking to hit a scissor sweep but Haymaker is one step ahead there.

Carneiro pushes a forearm under Haymaker's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Haymaker is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:02 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Gesias Carneiro!
