PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Stu Grimson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ripley Scott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Scott has chosen This is our World as his entrance music. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Stu Grimson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ripley Scott!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Donatello Bradman and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Grimson tries to close the distance and clinch but Scott swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Grimson rushes Scott and presses him up against the cage.
Scott managing to block the knees to the body from Grimson.
Grimson lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Scott wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Grimson is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Scott pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Scott wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Grimson has him pressed against the cage.
Grimson slowing the pace effectively.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Scott dodges an elbow strike from Grimson.
Grimson misses with a punch to the body.
Grimson keeps control of Scott as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Grimson is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Scott is defending well for now.

Grimson pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
Grimson tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Scott avoids it.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Scott is trying to break free.
Scott is trying to break the clinch but Grimson is controlling him.
Scott is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Grimson is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Scott is defending well for now.
Scott is trying to drag Grimson to the mat but Grimson just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Grimson looks to throw an elbow but misses.

Grimson looking to hit a scissor sweep but Scott is one step ahead there.
Scott controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Grimson tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Scott got a little sloppy there for a moment and Grimson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Scott has managed to get both his arms back between Grimson's legs - danger averted.

Grimson is looking for a triangle but Scott pushes his legs off easily.

Scott stands up and waves to Grimson to follow him.

Scott shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Scott showed some decent athleticism there.

Scott is keen to just control but Grimson is a slippery customer.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Grimson wants to control but Scott is keeping busy.
Scott content to control rather than advance.
Scott trying to control the action but Grimson is working from the bottom.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Grimson is pressing down on Scott's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Scott throws a big right hand that misses.
Grimson throwing strikes off his back to little effect.

Grimson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Scott doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Scott manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Scott is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Stu Grimson will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Grimson working for submissions but it's allowed Scott to get to half guard.
Scott is keen to just control but Grimson is a slippery customer.

Despite being in the dominant position, Ripley Scott just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Scott throws a head kick but Grimson moves out of range.
Horrible takedown by Scott or perhaps it was just good defense by Grimson which made him look bad.
Grimson tries to clinch but Scott is having none of it.
Scott swats away the attempt to clinch by Grimson.

and Scott counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Scott misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Grimson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Grimson wants it to stay on the feet.
Stu Grimson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ripley Scott.
Scott connects with a high kick.


It looks like Stu Grimson has been cut.
Grimson tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Grimson swings wildly with an uppercut but Scott uses good head movement to avoid it.
Scott is looking to break free of the clinch but Grimson has double underhooks.
Grimson tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Grimson fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Scott avoids the elbow strike from Grimson, against the cage.
Scott drops down looking for an ankle pick but Grimson pulls his leg out and moves away.

and Scott counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Scott.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Scott is breathing heavily.
Grimson controls Scott momentarily but Scott frees himself.
Scott is looking to advance position but Grimson has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Grimson swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Scott is now in Grimson's guard. A big mistake from Grimson there, giving up the dominant position!

Grimson is looking to sinch up a triangle. Scott throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Grimson's body to avoid the submission. Grimson has instead reached around Scott's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Grimson arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:46 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Stu Grimson!
