PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Herb Dean (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Court McSeedy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Herb Dean!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Court McSeedy!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, John Mangel and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dean has a takedown stuffed.

Dean gets in close and instigates a clinch.
McSeedy looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Dean manages to break the clinch.
McSeedy changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Dean tries to avoid it but McSeedy manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Dean to the ground. Dean escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Dean fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
McSeedy fails to land the takedown.

Dean scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Dean trying to control the action but McSeedy is working from the bottom.
McSeedy tries to improve position but can't.

Dean stands up and we're back to a striking position.
A leg kick checked by Dean.
McSeedy throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Dean.
McSeedy ducks under a wild hook from Dean.

McSeedy closes the distance looking to clinch

so Dean counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Dean thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
McSeedy manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Dean is trying desperately to improve position.

McSeedy is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Dean can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
McSeedy looks gassed!
McSeedy throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Dean wants to hold on but McSeedy pushes him away.
Dean is trying to escape the mount.

McSeedy is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Dean to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Dean shrugs it off.

Dean sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
McSeedy trying to control from Dean's half guard. Dean has other ideas though and has regained full guard.

Dean knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for McSeedy on the ground.

Dean has his foot on McSeedy's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. McSeedy works his way back into a safe position though.

Dean escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. McSeedy gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Dean wants to stand up but McSeedy is controlling him.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Dean is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
McSeedy postures up.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Herb Dean just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Dean looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Herb Dean. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Dean drives through and clinches with McSeedy against the cage.

Dean breaks from the clinch.
McSeedy misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
McSeedy swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Dean counters with a nice double leg into side control. McSeedy won't be happy with that.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
A lull in the action here as Dean stalls from top position.
Dean trying to control the action but McSeedy is working from the bottom.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Dean feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Dean controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Dean wants to control from the top but McSeedy keeps moving.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Nice takedown defense from McSeedy. No joy for Dean on that attempt.
McSeedy fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Dean fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Dean looks up at the clock and then as McSeedy takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Dean smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Dean wants to lay and pray for a moment but McSeedy keeps working.

Dean has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
McSeedy swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Dean counters with a nice uppercut.
Dean misses with a few strikes there.
Court McSeedy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McSeedy has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
McSeedy leaves Dean with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Dean misses with a double jab.
McSeedy keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Dean clinches up against the cage.
McSeedy fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Dean content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Dean drops down looking for an ankle pick but McSeedy pulls his leg out and moves away.

Dean changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. McSeedy tries to avoid it but Dean manages to keep hold of a leg and drag McSeedy to the ground. McSeedy escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Dean fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but McSeedy avoids it really well and circles away.

McSeedy throws a left and a right that both miss
and Dean counters with a nice uppercut.
Dean shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts McSeedy as he jumps to the side.
Dean ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
McSeedy misses with a double jab.
Dean dives in and grabs McSeedy's left leg, looking for a takedown. McSeedy pushes down on Dean's head and hops out.

Dean shoots in and bounces McSeedy off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Dean stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. McSeedy swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Dean gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Herb Dean dominated that second round.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Dean goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

McSeedy tries to keep at a distance but Dean has taken the fight into the clinch.

Dean drags the fight down to the ground.

McSeedy drops back, looking for a kneebar! Dean looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Dean looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Dean!
Dean staying calm.
Dean looking to punish the body of his opponent here but McSeedy is avoiding damage well.
Herb Dean overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
McSeedy takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Dean controlling the position.
Dean trying to control the position but McSeedy is working away.

Dean tries to move into full mount but can't pass McSeedy's legs.

McSeedy is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Dean scores with punches from side control.
Dean is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt McSeedy will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Dean tries for a kimura but McSeedy is defending well.
McSeedy looks to move to half guard but instead Dean has passed into mount! Damn!
McSeedy wants to control but Dean is having none of it.
Dean trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Dean content just to control the position here.
Dean pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Dean has control of McSeedy's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and McSeedy regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Dean sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Dean cracks McSeedy with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Dean throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Dean wants to finish this one by submission but McSeedy is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Dean.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
McSeedy working to try and regain half guard.
McSeedy wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Dean.
Dean landing strikes from the mount.
Dean with the ground and pound from mount.
Dean controlling the position easily from mount.
Dean looking to finish with strikes here!
McSeedy is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Dean has taken his back.

And that's the end of the fight!
Herb Dean showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Dean has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
