PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ren Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Foreman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gracie comes into the arena with Eminence Front by The Who blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ren Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, David Foreman!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Illya Tyunina and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Foreman throws a looping overhand right but Gracie ducks down to avoid it.
Gracie throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Foreman's waist but Foreman gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gracie off to one side.
Foreman misses with a wild combination.
Gracie shoots in and drives through. Foreman sprawls well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gracie shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Foreman as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ren Gracie. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Nice defenses there by Gracie.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Gracie.
Gracie shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Foreman defends it nicely.
Gracie avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Horrible takedown by Gracie or perhaps it was just good defense by Foreman which made him look bad.
Foreman throws a combination that misses

and Gracie counters with a single leg into guard. Foreman didn't expect that.

Gracie drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Foreman manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Gracie has Foreman in his guard.
Foreman would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Foreman stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Gracie moves out of range of the strikes.
Foreman throws a lazy right hand but Gracie sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Foreman throws a series of punches but Gracie moves out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Ren Gracie will probably get the nod.

Foreman looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Gracie walks into a stiff left hand from Foreman.
Foreman throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Gracie counters with a one-two to the body.
Nice shot lands for Foreman.
Ren Gracie is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Gracie will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

and Gracie counters with a two punch combo.
Gracie slips a jab from Foreman.
Foreman lands a jab.
Foreman misses with a wild body shot.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Foreman lands with an overhand left.
Gracie looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Foreman is fending him off so far but Gracie persists. Nope, Foreman circles away and we're back to standing.

David Foreman is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Foreman throws a leg kick but Gracie sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Foreman throws a head kick that misses.
Foreman scores with a nice strike.
Gracie closes the distance and clinches up with Foreman, looking for a takedown. Gracie pushes Foreman against the cage but Foreman circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Foreman fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Foreman throws a hook but Gracie avoids it easily.
Foreman throws a nice looking combination but Gracie bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Gracie checks the leg kick nicely there.
Foreman throws a looping overhand right but Gracie ducks down to avoid it.

Gracie takes one to the side of the head.

David Foreman showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Gracie's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Gracie uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Foreman.
Nice takedown defense from Foreman. No joy for Gracie on that attempt.

Gracie closes the distance and clinches up with Foreman, looking for a takedown. Gracie pushes Foreman against the cage but Foreman circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

and Gracie counters with a left and a right that stings Foreman.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Gracie moves out of range as Foreman throws a body kick.
Foreman throws a series of punches but Gracie avoids them all with ease.
Gracie shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Foreman as he jumps to the side.

Gracie is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Foreman is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Foreman has escaped and now he's on top!

Foreman drops back looking for a leg! Gracie is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Gracie manages to kick Foreman off! Foreman jumps back into Gracie's guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Gracie looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Foreman is fending him off so far but Gracie persists. Nope, Foreman circles away and we're back to standing.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ren Gracie showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Gracie has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
