PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jeffrey Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mergen Kalyaev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mergen Kalyaev told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Wagner Zegers and Saam Ante.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kalyaev displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Silva.
Silva looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Kalyaev scores with a nice strike.

Kalyaev closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Kalyaev is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Silva throws a head punch that misses.
Silva is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Kalyaev pulls him back up using the underhooks.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jeffrey Silva. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Kalyaev has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Silva regains guard immediately.

Kalyaev postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Kalyaev thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Silva is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kalyaev defends well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kalyaev distracts Silva with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Kalyaev must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Kalyaev is looking to work some ground and pound but Silva has wrist control.

Kalyaev thows a big elbow that misses.
Kalyaev really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Silva. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
A lazy left from Kalyaev finds it's target.
Kalyaev moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Kalyaev goes for a high kick. It partially lands.

Silva is rocked!
Kalyaev throws an overhand right that lands on Silva's shoulder, as Silva tries to avoid the shot.
Oh Silva is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Kalyaev throws a nasty head kick that just misses. He throws another kick to the head of his opponent and almost takes it off! Silva crumples to the floor and the fight is over!
