PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ronnie Ross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brett Carwin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Carwin's choice of entrance music: target=blank>5FDP. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ronnie Ross!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brett Carwin!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Russell Pearce and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ross fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Ross drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Carwin looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Ross preventing the sweep.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Carwin keeping moving, preventing Ross from controlling successfully.
Carwin keeping full guard, as Ross tries to pass.
Ross trying to control the position from guard on top but Carwin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Ross is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Carwin is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Ross distracts Carwin with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Ross stands up over Carwin, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Ross throwing strikes from guard but Carwin blocks nicely.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Ross shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Carwin as he avoids it easily.

Ross scores with a takedown into Carwin's guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Carwin will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Ross with a flurry of punches that miss.
Ross could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Carwin thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Ross not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Carwin lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Ross!
Ross is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Carwin lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Carwin lands with some strikes.
Ross is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ross sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Carwin trying to control the action but Ross is working from the bottom.
Ross is looking to improve his position.
Ross gets back to full guard.
Ross looking to control.

Ross looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Carwin has picked Ross up and slammed him! Ross can't keep hold of the triangle and Carwin manages to pass to side control!
Ross manages to get back to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Carwin is thwarting Ross's attempts to control the position.
Carwin wants to pass to mount but Ross is defending the position.
Carwin thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Ross gets full guard.
Carwin must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Carwin is looking to work some ground and pound but Ross has wrist control.
Ross has Carwin pulled in close to control his posture.
Carwin really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ross. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Carwin in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Ross is trying to keep Carwin in close.
Ross is pulling down on Carwin's head to control his posture.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Ross is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Carwin is looking to advance position but Ross has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Carwin is wriggling around trying to escape.
Carwin looks gassed!
BOOM! Ross connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Carwin tries to reverse the position but Ross maintains control.
Ross landing shots from mount.
Ross sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Ross has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Ross cracks Carwin with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ronnie Ross dominated that round.
That's time! Ross's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Ross closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Ross controlling the action here.
Carwin trying to control but Ross postures up.
Carwin is staying active underneath Ross, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Ross is controlling the pace.
Ross wants to lay and pray for a moment but Carwin keeps working.

Ross is working for a submission of some sort.
Ross is looking to take a break and control but Carwin is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Ronnie Ross overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Ronnie Ross just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Ross shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Carwin manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Carwin looking for a sweep. Not yet Carwin, not yet.
Carwin not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Carwin is breathing heavily.
Ross advances position into side control!
Ross is working Carwin over with some ground and pound from side control.
Ross trying to control the position but Carwin is working away.

Ross thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Carwin tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Ross is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Carwin knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Ross in side control, just content to control the action for now.

Ross lands some shots froms side control.
Carwin tries to buck Ross off but Ross is having none of it.

Ross in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Carwin is tapping! That's the end of the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Ronnie Ross!
