PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Nick Burnett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brian Mac (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nick Burnett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brian Mac!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Franklyn Lucas and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Burnett ducks under a wild hook from Mac.
Burnett slaps away a takedown attempt from Mac, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Mac shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Mac shoots in looking for a takedown. Burnett tries to sprawl out of it but Mac keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Burnett manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Nick Burnett has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brian Mac.

Mac tries to score a power double leg takedown but Burnett sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Mac somewhat.

Burnett fakes the leg kick and cracks Mac in the body.
Brian Mac seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A slapping body kick lands there for Burnett.
Mac takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Mac is trying desperately to land a takedown but Burnett is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Mac.

Burnett lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Burnett lands a really nice looking cross but Mac seems unphased.

Burnett stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Burnett scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Mac takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Burnett tests Mac's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Mac takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Burnett is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.
Good leg kick by Burnett there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Burnett takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Burnett slaps away a takedown attempt from Mac, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Burnett comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Burnett dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Mac. That did some damage!

Mac is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Burnett lands with a kick to the temple. Mac shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Mac throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Burnett's waist but Burnett gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Mac off to one side.

Burnett is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

Mac's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Burnett connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

Mac tries to score a power double leg takedown but Burnett sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Mac somewhat.
Mac walks forward, straight into a front kick from Burnett.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Mac shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Burnett defends it nicely.
Burnett is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

The fighters circle momentarily. Burnett darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Both these guys seem content to just stand up and trade with eachother but Mac might want to think about changing up his gameplan a bit because over the course of the fight, Burnett has got the better of the exchanges.

That was a close second round but I would say that Nick Burnett will probably get the nod.

Mac feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Burnett, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
