PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between MAX PAIN (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Daley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Paul Daley will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, MAX PAIN!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Paul Daley!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Paul Tew and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

PAIN instigates a clinch.
PAIN letting Daley take a breather here.

Daley manages to pull guard.

Daley is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and PAIN defends well.

PAIN stands up from Daley's guard - PAIN perhaps looking for a knockout.

PAIN instigates a clinch.
Daley wants a takedown but no success here.
Daley wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

PAIN has hold of one of Daley's legs. Daley is fighting the takedown attempt but PAIN gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
PAIN not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
PAIN scoring with some ground and pound.

PAIN sitting in guard, not really doing much.
PAIN throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Daley works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
PAIN wants to control from the top but Daley keeps moving.
PAIN chips away with some ground and pound.
Daley wants to sweep here but PAIN controlling him for the moment.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Daley is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
PAIN has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
PAIN trying to control but Daley is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Daley is trying to keep PAIN in close.
Daley looks gassed!

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Daley looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

PAIN darts in and clinches Daley up against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Daley drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
MAX PAIN has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paul Daley.

PAIN's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
An inside leg kick lands from PAIN.

PAIN bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Daley is letting PAIN control him for a moment.

PAIN decides to take the fight back to the feet.

PAIN rushes Daley and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

PAIN pulls guard.

Daley looking to sit in guard and control but PAIN gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Daley looking to control.
PAIN is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
PAIN works over Daley with some ground and pound from guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

MAX PAIN dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Daley takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.

PAIN closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Nice body punch from PAIN - that landed with a thud.
Daley fails to pull guard.
Daley tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

PAIN escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
PAIN lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by PAIN.

PAIN shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Daley's guard.

PAIN gets to his feet. Daley looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

PAIN closes the distance and clinches.

PAIN jumps into guard, dragging Daley to the mat.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
PAIN lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Daley!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
PAIN controlling from mount.

Daley tries to lock up and control but PAIN gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
PAIN controlling the position easily from mount.
Daley is squirming around, avoiding PAIN's attempts to control the action.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
PAIN prevents Daley from getting the reversal.
PAIN tries to control but Daley wriggling away.
Daley is trying desperately to improve position.

PAIN swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Daley is now in PAIN's guard. A big mistake from PAIN there, giving up the dominant position!

PAIN is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Daley trying to control the position from guard on top but PAIN is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
PAIN has Daley pulled in close to control his posture.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
PAIN looking for a sweep. Not yet PAIN, not yet.
Daley wants to control from the top but PAIN keeps moving.
Daley content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
PAIN throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Daley doesn't succeed with the takedown
and PAIN counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
MAX PAIN has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paul Daley.
PAIN shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Daley sprawls well. Daley wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. PAIN gets slowly back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

MAX PAIN dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


PAIN shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Daley as he jumps to the side.

MAX PAIN overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
PAIN wants to lay and pray for a moment but Daley keeps working.

PAIN looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

PAIN decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Daley closes the distance looking to clinch

and PAIN counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

PAIN decides to stand up.
Daley throws a head kick but PAIN moves out of range.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Daley shoots in and bounces PAIN off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

PAIN has his foot on Daley's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Daley works his way back into a safe position though.

Daley decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

PAIN moves out of range of the body kick.

and PAIN counters with a shoot takedown. Daley fights it but they end up in guard.

PAIN is stalling in the full guard.

PAIN stands up from Daley's guard - PAIN perhaps looking for a knockout.
Daley throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

PAIN shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Daley is trying to defend but PAIN finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
PAIN is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Daley is looking to get back to full guard here but PAIN has managed to pass to side control instead.
PAIN landing punches.
PAIN is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Daley can do to turn this around?
Daley tries to hold on but PAIN postures up.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Well PAIN has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
