PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Chris Zarch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mendez Papillion (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Chris Zarch!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Mendez Papillion!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Daniel Bishop and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Papillion throws a body punch but Zarch moves out of range.

Papillion scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Zarch gets full guard.
Zarch will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Zarch working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Papillion.

Zarch isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Papillion stacks Zarch on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Papillion!

Papillion stands up.

Papillion closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Papillion lands in his opponent's guard.

Zarch is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Zarch really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Papillion gets to his feet - Zarch follows without any prompting.

Papillion has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Papillion is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Papillion stands up and waves to Zarch to follow him.
Papillion misses with a head kick.
Zarch avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Papillion shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Papillion takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Papillion lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Papillion lands with a punch from half guard.
Papillion passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Zarch!
Papillion is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Zarch can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Papillion looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Zarch really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Papillion trying to control but Zarch is having none of it.
Zarch is wriggling around trying to escape.
Papillion with shots to the head and body - Zarch looks very uncomfortable down there.
Zarch is in all sorts of trouble here.
Papillion lands a big shot there that rocks Zarch but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Papillion has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Zarch's face.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Zarch defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Papillion.
Zarch is wriggling around trying to escape.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Zarch is working hard here to advance position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mendez Papillion dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Papillion shoots in and bounces Zarch off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Papillion lands a couple of elbows.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Papillion keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Zarch's head.

Papillion thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Zarch is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Zarch has momentary wrist control but Papillion slips an elbow through the middle.
Papillion stays in close to Zarch's body and controls the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Papillion stands up from Zarch's guard - Papillion perhaps looking for a knockout.

Papillion is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
The referee is keeping an eye on Papillion - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Papillion successfully pulls guard.

Papillion is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Papillion connects with a nasty looking knee right to Zarch's face.

Papillion gets through Zarch's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

Papillion turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Zarch is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Papillion has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Papillion cracks Zarch with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Zarch takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Zarch tries to bench press Papillion off him but Papillion keeps the position.
Papillion lands some shots froms side control.
Papillion trying to control the position but Zarch is working away.
Zarch tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Papillion lands an elbow.

Papillion in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Zarch is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
