Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jay Rua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeff Bulldog (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jay Rua!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jeff Bulldog!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Daniel Franklin and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rua digs a good body shot into Bulldog's ribs.
Bulldog misses with a takedown attempt - Rua sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Rua rushes Bulldog and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Bulldog has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Rua is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Rua stalling.

Rua manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Bulldog looking to pass the guard.
Bulldog looks gassed!
Bulldog won't allow Rua to get back to his feet.

Bulldog postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Rua is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Bulldog, into his guard.
Rua controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Rua wanted to stand there but Bulldog had control of the position.
Bulldog is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Rua trying to control the position from guard on top but Bulldog is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Rua knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bulldog on the ground.
Rua is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Bulldog is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Rua would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Rua leaves Bulldog with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Jay Rua has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jeff Bulldog.

Rua fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Bulldog sprawls well initially but Rua persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Rua uses his free foot to push down on Bulldog's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Bulldog.

Rua lands a big shot there that rocks Bulldog but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Rua postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Bulldog looks a forlorn figure.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bulldog is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Rua looking to control and managing it successfully.

Rua looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Rua looking for a guillotine from mount but Bulldog is having none of it.

Bulldog is squirming around, avoiding Rua's attempts to control the action.
Rua throws some wild stikes that Bulldog manages to avoid easily.
Rua controlling his opponent.
Bulldog is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Rua trying to control but Bulldog is having none of it.
Bulldog should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Bulldog keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Bulldog tries to lock up and control but Rua gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Rua trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Rua looking to control and managing it successfully.
Bulldog slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jay Rua dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Left hook, right uppercut from Rua.
Bulldog misses with a takedown
and Rua counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Bulldog is lucky that one didn't land flush.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Rua loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Bulldog escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Rua gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Rua controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Rua pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Bulldog is keeping the position for now.
Rua has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Rua wants to control from the top but Bulldog keeps moving.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Rua has closed the distance and engaged Bulldog in a clinch.
Rua is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Rua breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Rua unloads a knee to the mid-section. Bulldog lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

Rua has picked Bulldog up - he's going for a ride! Rua dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Rua content to control rather than advance.

Rua is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Bulldog defends it well.
Bulldog is looking to control Rua's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Bulldog avoid being mounted?
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rua stands up and beckons Bulldog to join him on the feet.

Bulldog fails with the takedown

and Rua counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Jay Rua has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jeff Bulldog.
Rua wants to control but Bulldog is keeping him busy.

Bulldog is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Rua pulls his head out easily.

Bulldog has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rua is working away from the top position though.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That's time! Rua's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Rua closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Bulldog wants to pass the guard but Rua is keeping the position.

Bulldog is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Bulldog sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Rua's guard.

Rua trying to hold on to Bulldog's head to control him but Bulldog postures up.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Rua throws a nice inside leg kick.

Rua bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
You can see the frustration on Bulldog's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Bulldog is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Bulldog wants to get back to full guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and Rua counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Bulldog's guard now.

Bulldog is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Rua is aware though and is defending well.
