Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ben Askren (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Manaka Perelman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Ben Askren has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ben Askren!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Manaka Perelman!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perelman shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Askren sprawls well. Askren wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Perelman gets slowly back to his feet.

Askren drives through with a takedown into guard.

Perelman looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Perelman is looking for a triangle but Askren pushes his legs off easily.

Perelman had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Askren defends it easily.
Perelman wants to stand up but Askren is controlling him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Askren has gone for a leg lock! Perelman slips out almost immediately though and dives into Askren's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Perelman throws a strike but Askren rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Askren with a flurry of punches that miss.
Askren working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

Perelman is looking for a triangle but Askren pushes his legs off easily.

Askren got a little sloppy there for a moment and Perelman has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Askren has managed to get both his arms back between Perelman's legs - danger averted.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Perelman looks gassed!
Askren postures up and lands a big shot to Perelman's brow.

Perelman is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Askren postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Askren missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Askren has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Askren scoring with punches to the head and body.
Askren lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Askren makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Askren keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Perelman's head.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Askren postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Perelman has momentary wrist control but Askren slips an elbow through the middle.
Askren is in close to Perelman's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Askren scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Perelman can do anything to dispel that myth.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Askren is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Askren connects with a couple of short punches.
Askren content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Askren throws and elbow that misses. Perelman uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Askren's guard. Nice move by Perelman!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Askren blocks Perelman's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Askren lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Perelman hang on?
Askren scores with a couple of good head shots there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ben Askren dominated that round.
That's time! Askren's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Perelman has his takedown stuffed

so Askren counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Askren loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Askren throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Perelman works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Perelman escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Askren gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Perelman is breathing heavily.
Askren in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Askren is posturing up here but Perelman has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Askren tries to roll out but it's too tight and Askren has to tap! Slick submission there by Perelman!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:21 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Manaka Perelman!
