PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gordon Freeman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Dyrdrek (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Gordon Freeman has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Gordon Freeman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alex Dyrdrek!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Valeri Chadov and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dyrdrek changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Freeman looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Dyrdrek remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Dyrdrek's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Dyrdrek wants to control but Freeman is keeping him busy.
The referee asks Dyrdrek politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Dyrdrek prefers to stall for the moment though.

Dyrdrek postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Freeman struggling a bit here.
Dyrdrek is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Freeman will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Dyrdrek misses with the ground and pound.
Dyrdrek trying to control the action but Freeman is working from the bottom.

Despite being in the dominant position, Alex Dyrdrek just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Dyrdrek dives in and grabs Freeman's left leg, looking for a takedown. Freeman pushes down on Dyrdrek's head and hops out.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Freeman slaps away a takedown attempt from Dyrdrek, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Dyrdrek shoots in but no luck this time.
Gordon Freeman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alex Dyrdrek.

so Dyrdrek counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Dyrdrek should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Freeman looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Dyrdrek controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alex Dyrdrek dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Dyrdrek looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Despite being in the dominant position, Alex Dyrdrek just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Dyrdrek throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Alex Dyrdrek showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Freeman shoots and misses

and Dyrdrek counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Dyrdrek closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Freeman manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Dyrdrek seems to be trying to get a kimura but instead Freeman has recovered full guard.
Dyrdrek takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Dyrdrek stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Freeman swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Freeman can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Dyrdrek controls the pace.
Gordon Freeman has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Alex Dyrdrek is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
