Monkey has chosen Everything in its right place- Radio Head as his entrance music. Karpo Karelin could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Wounded Monkey's chin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Karelin scores a takedown into full mount!
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Karelin prevents Monkey from getting the reversal.
Monkey is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Karelin sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Monkey really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Karelin lands a heavy elbow.
Monkey is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Karelin lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Monkey sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Monkey is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Karelin makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Karelin wants to control from the top but Monkey keeps moving.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Karelin got a little sloppy there for a moment and Monkey has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Karelin has managed to get both his arms back between Monkey's legs - danger averted.

Karelin might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Monkey is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Karelin has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Karelin wants to control from the top but Monkey keeps moving.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Karelin closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Monkey to the mat! Monkey manages to get full guard.
Monkey wants to sweep here but Karelin controlling him for the moment.
Monkey controls Karelin momentarily but Karelin frees himself.
Monkey is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Karelin postures up and lands a big shot to Monkey's brow.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Karelin slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Monkey manages to get back to half guard.
Karelin looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Monkey with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Monkey is looking to control Karelin's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Monkey avoid being mounted?
Karelin works his way into side control.
Monkey takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Monkey is trying to control Karelin's posture but Karelin avoids it.

Karelin lands some shots froms side control.
Karelin scores with punches from side control.
Karelin trying to control the position but Monkey is working away.
Karelin taking a break here but Monkey is having none of it and regains half guard.
Karelin looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Monkey is trying to control but can't.
Monkey keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Karelin prevents Monkey from improving his position.
Karelin works his foot free and advances to mount.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Karpo Karelin dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Monkey rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Karelin moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Karelin shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Monkey looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Karelin lands strikes from half guard.
Karelin wants to lay and pray for a moment but Monkey keeps working.
Karelin passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Monkey!
Monkey keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Monkey is breathing heavily.

Monkey holds on to Karelin around his waist, trying desperately to prevent any attacks.
Monkey tries to hold on but Karelin postures up.
Karelin is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Monkey can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Monkey can't escape the position.
Monkey wants to control but Karelin is having none of it.
Karelin landing strikes from the mount and Monkey is in trouble!
Karelin looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.


Monkey is rocked!

Karelin postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Monkey in real trouble here! The ref calls for Monkey to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!
