The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Akiyama fails with a takedown attempt.
Akiyama moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Giovanni swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Akiyama.
Akiyama shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Giovanni pinned against the cage. Giovanni gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Akiyama fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Yoshihiro Akiyama. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Akiyama changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Giovanni tries to avoid it but Akiyama manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Giovanni to the ground. Giovanni escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
A punch combination from Giovanni misses.
Giovanni bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Akiyama's head backwards.
Giovanni throws a one two combo.

It looks like Yoshihiro Akiyama has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Giovanni lands a big uppercut and Akiyama crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Akiyama looks OK. Giovanni waves Akiyama back to his feet!

No luck for Akiyama with that takedown attempt.
Giovanni lands with a big right hook that stumbles Akiyama - he's out on his feet here! Giovanni follows up with another monster hook that separates Akiyama from consciousness! Akiyama falls, almost in slow motion to the canvas! Giovanni stands and admires his work as the crowd go wild.
