The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Smith thows a body shot but no joy.
Smith swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Muff forces Smith back against the cage and clinches.
Muff goes for a takedown in the clinch but Smith prevents it.
Smith gets underhooks to prevent Muff's takedown attempt.
Smith wants to break free but Muff has control.
Muff tries to pull guard but Smith won't allow it.

Muff manages to break the clinch.
Smith shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Muff as he jumps to the side.

Muff shoots for a double leg takedown but Smith sprawls well. He's pushed Muff's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Muff tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Smith is able to avoid easily.

Smith throws a series of punches but Muff moves out of range.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Muff is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Muff jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Smith walks away with a smile on his face. Muff gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Muff shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Smith wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Smith tries to pull guard but Muff holds him up against the cage and eventually Smith drops back down to his feet.

Muff dodges the punch combination from Smith.
Smith tries to clinch but Muff moves out of range.
Muff throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Smith throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Muff.

Muff misses with a takedown attempt - Smith sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Muff is breathing heavily.
Muff shoots in looking for a takedown. Smith tries to sprawl out of it but Muff keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Smith manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Smith throws a nice looking combination but Muff bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Smith lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Muff circles away quickly and effectively.

Muff closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Smith to the mat! Smith manages to get full guard.

Smith throws a combination. Muff tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Smith looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Muff is fending him off so far but Smith persists. Nope, Muff circles away and we're back to standing.
Smith uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Muff.
Joe Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Muff wants to clinch.
Smith misses with a two punch combination.
Smith thows a body shot but no joy.
Nice takedown defense from Muff. No joy for Smith on that attempt.
Smith leaves Muff with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Smith tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Muff swivels and escapes.
No joy there for Smith, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Smith dives in and grabs Muff's left leg, looking for a takedown. Muff pushes down on Smith's head and hops out.

Muff fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Smith, pushing him back against the cage.

Muff jumps guard but Smith stands there with Muff around his waist. Muff gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Muff is working for takedown but Smith is calmly controlling the position for now.
A frustrated look appears on Smith's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Smith wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Smith pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Muff keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Smith throws the left hand but Muff avoids the punch easily.
Muff slaps away a takedown attempt from Smith, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Smith throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Muff's waist but Muff gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Smith off to one side.
Smith fails with an attempt to clinch.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Smith is defended easily by Muff.
Smith is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Muff throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Smith was covering up waiting for the punch and Muff finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Muff!
Muff is in a horrible position here. Smith smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Smith fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Smith lands with some strikes.
Muff knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Smith on the ground.

He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Muff looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out!
