Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Matt Watson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roy Raas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Matt Watson has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Matt Watson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Roy Raas!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, William Peck and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Watson bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Watson works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.


It looks like Roy Raas has been cut.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Raas struggling a bit here.
Watson just content to control the position.

Watson tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Watson stands up.

Raas takes the fight into the clinch.
Raas wants to break the clinch but can't.
Raas tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Watson just stands there and leans against the cage.

Raas avoiding damage as Watson throws knees to the body.

Watson is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Raas can't fight it off and eventually Watson manages to take the fight to the floor. Raas looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Raas not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Watson trying to control the position from guard on top but Raas is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Raas looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Raas is looking for a triangle here but Watson uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Raas tries to improve position but can't.
Watson staying calm.

Watson scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Raas to see if he's OK.
Watson is chipping away with strikes.
Raas is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Raas wants to get back to his feet.
Raas is looking for a sweep.
Raas struggling a bit here.

Watson stands up.

Watson scores a takedown into full mount!
Watson is breathing heavily.

Raas is looking to get to half guard.

Watson working for a guillotine from mount but Raas is in no mood to give up.

Watson wants to finish this one by submission but Raas is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Watson.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Raas is working to get back to half guard.
Watson controlling the pace for now.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Watson trying to control but he's not successful this time.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Raas fails with the takedown

and Watson counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Watson.
Watson passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Watson trying to control the position but Raas is working away.
Raas tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Raas is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Watson stands up and beckons Raas to his feet.
Raas tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Watson counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Well, if Watson is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Raas wants to control but Watson is keeping busy.
Raas is breathing heavily.
Watson uses his free foot to push down on Raas's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Raas.

Watson has control of Raas's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Raas regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Raas is looking to get to half guard.
Watson landing strikes from the mount and Raas is in trouble!

Raas slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Watson prevents Raas from improving his position.

Watson decides to stand and escape the position.

Raas darts in trying to clinch

so Watson counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Watson trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Raas looking for a sweep. Not yet Raas, not yet.

Raas working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Watson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Watson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Watson stands up and waves to Raas to follow him.
Watson lands with a nice combination. Raas backs away looking to recover.


The has opened up Roy Raas's cut even more.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Watson wants to work for an arm triangle but Raas is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Watson is tying to control. Raas wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Watson prevents Raas from standing back up.

Watson is trying for a kimura here. Raas looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Watson wins by kimura!
