PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ground Pound (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Luke Anderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ground Pound!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Luke Anderson!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Wesley Smith and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Anderson.
Pound displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.

Pound darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Anderson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Pound is working away from the top position though.
Well, if Pound is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Pound has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Anderson is looking to improve his position.
Pound perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Ground Pound just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

and Pound counters with a takedown into side control.
Anderson tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Pound wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Pound is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Anderson tries to buck Pound off but Pound is having none of it.

Anderson prevents Pound from improving position.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Pound blocks the strikes from Anderson.

Anderson wants to control but Pound postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pound takes a little break here. Anderson wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Pound's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Pound tries to advance to mount but can't.

Pound stalks Anderson and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Anderson's face. Anderson staggers backwards, shaken.
Pound looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

so Pound counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Ground Pound has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Luke Anderson.

Anderson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pound doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Pound manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Anderson is striking off his back. Pound thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.

Pound is pressing down on Anderson's thigh, looking to free his foot. Anderson is holding on for now.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Still in half guard, Pound seems content to control.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Anderson gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Pound to score an easy takedown into full guard.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Pound here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Pound got a little sloppy there for a moment and Anderson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Pound has managed to get both his arms back between Anderson's legs - danger averted.

Pound shoots in and bounces Anderson off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Pound controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Ground Pound is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Ground Pound overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Pound is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ground Pound showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Pound has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
