Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sandro Da Costa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Mitchell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Da Costa might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Long Way Home. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sandro Da Costa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jay Mitchell!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Cecil Peabody and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some wild striking there from Da Costa.
A combination from Da Costa does no damage.
Mitchell avoids the head kick by Da Costa.
Mitchell shoots in for a takedown but Da Costa shows good takedown defense.

Da Costa clinches with his opponent.
Da Costa lands a damaging elbow.
Mitchell takes a knee right on the jaw!
Da Costa tries to land a knee to the head but Mitchell blocks with his arms.
Da Costa misses with a knee strike.
With the fighters up against the cage, Da Costa throws an elbow but misses.
Da Costa tries to land a knee to the head but Mitchell blocks with his arms.
Da Costa lands an elbow inside that Mitchell shrugs off.
Da Costa gets underhooks to prevent Mitchell's takedown attempt.
Mitchell is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Da Costa gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Sandro Da Costa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jay Mitchell.
Da Costa misses with a knee strike.
Da Costa with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Mitchell tries to pull guard but Da Costa holds him up against the cage and eventually Mitchell drops back down to his feet.
Mitchell has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Da Costa avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Da Costa looking to throw knees to the head but Mitchell is blocking nicely.

Mitchell tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Da Costa smiles and moves away.
Da Costa will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Mitchell misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Mitchell wants to control from the top but Da Costa keeps moving.

Mitchell makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Mitchell tries to free his leg and advance position but Da Costa is retaining full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Da Costa throws a head kick that misses.
Da Costa misses with a wild body shot.
Mitchell shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Da Costa but Da Costa pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Mitchell dodges the punch combination from Da Costa.
Da Costa lands a two punch combo.
Da Costa lands with a kick to the temple. Mitchell shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Mitchell blocks a head kick by Da Costa.
Mitchell closes the distance and clinches up with Da Costa, looking for a takedown. Mitchell pushes Da Costa against the cage but Da Costa circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Mitchell scores with a takedown into Da Costa's guard.
Da Costa knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mitchell on the ground.
Mitchell throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Da Costa wants to stand but Mitchell is controlling the position.

Mitchell looking to pass the guard.
Mitchell lands a couple of elbows.
Mitchell trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Mitchell trying to control but Da Costa is working from the bottom.

Mitchell drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Da Costa manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Mitchell has Da Costa in his guard.

Mitchell working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Da Costa doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Da Costa manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Da Costa is looking to stand up but Mitchell won't let him.
Mitchell wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Da Costa is now in half guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Mitchell is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Da Costa pulls his head out easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Da Costa wants to get back to his feet.
Mitchell trying to hold on to Da Costa's head to control him but Da Costa postures up.
Mitchell moves into full guard.
Mitchell is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jay Mitchell will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Da Costa misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Mitchell ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Da Costa moves away.
Some wild striking there from Da Costa.
Mitchell fails with the takedown.
Sandro Da Costa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Da Costa forces Mitchell back against the cage and clinches.
Da Costa landing some nice looking knees to the body.

Mitchell pulls guard effortlessly.
Mitchell wants to sweep but no luck.

Mitchell has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Da Costa can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Mitchell has his foot on Da Costa's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Da Costa works his way back into a safe position though.
Mitchell is breathing heavily.
Mitchell throwing strikes off his back to little effect.

Mitchell looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Da Costa passes into side control.

Mitchell gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Mitchell moves into full guard.

Da Costa won't allow Mitchell to sweep him here.
Da Costa trying to stand up but can't free himself from Mitchell's guard.

Mitchell had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Da Costa is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Mitchell Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Da Costa's back instead.

Mitchell working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.

Watch the back of the head! Comes the shout from the referee towards Mitchell.

Da Costa defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Mitchell's arms.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Mitchell is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Da Costa with him. Da Costa is trying to defend but Mitchell has an arm under the chin now! Da Costa grimaces and is forced to tap out!
