PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joe Han (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Francis Jaquier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Joe Han!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Francis Jaquier!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Elvis Blanc and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Han circles away from the clinch attempt.
A head kick misses from Jaquier.
The fight stays on the outside here - Han looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Jaquier tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Han swivels and escapes.

Han moves into the clinch successfully.
Han landing knees to the head.


It looks like Francis Jaquier has been cut.
Jaquier misses with a hook from the clinch.

Han breaks from the clinch.
Han with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Jaquier moves out of range of the body kick.
Han takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Han moves in looking to clinch but Jaquier pushes him off.

Han moves into the clinch.
Good body shot from Han.
Han blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Han could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Han is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Han breaks the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Han throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Jaquier stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Jaquier shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Jaquier looks gassed!
A head kick by Han misses
and Jaquier counters with a nice kick to the body.
Han takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Jaquier avoids the head kick by Han.
Jaquier closes this distance looking for a takedown but Han circles away.
Joe Han has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Francis Jaquier.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Jaquier crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Han - the referee stops the clock and Jaquier gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Han. Jaquier manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Han throws a nice looking combination but Jaquier bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

and Jaquier counters with a single leg into guard. Han didn't expect that.

Jaquier trying to control the position from guard on top but Han is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Han pushes Jaquier off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Han lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Han misses with a double jab.
A lazy left from Han finds it's target.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Han leaves Jaquier with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Han tries to clinch up.
Han throws a leg kick which misses Jaquier's front leg but catches the back leg as Jaquier tries to avoid it.

Han fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Jaquier looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Han lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Han smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Jaquier darts in trying to clinch
and Han counters with a right hand to the body.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Han lands a head kick. Jaquier smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Han lands with a kick to the ribs.
Han throws a right and a left that Jaquier avoids nicely.
Han scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Jaquier looking to land some kicks to the body here.

Han closes the distance and clinches.

Han breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Jaquier closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Han to the mat! Han manages to get full guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Han wants to get back to his feet but Jaquier is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Han dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Francis Jaquier's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Jaquier blocks a head kick by Han.
Jaquier fails in his attempt to clinch.
Han misses with an attempted mid kick.
Jaquier shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Han counters by moving into the clinch.
Han with a knee to the head.

Han pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Joe Han is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Jaquier avoids the head kick by Han.

Jaquier closes the distance and pushes Han back into the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jaquier jumps guard.
Jaquier is adopting a defensive guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Han preventing the sweep.

Han makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Han postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Jaquier wants to sweep here but Han controlling him for the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Han postures up in Jaquier's guard and throws a big left but Jaquier blocks it.
Han wants to stand but Jaquier is controlling his posture from full guard.
Jaquier keeping moving, preventing Han from controlling successfully.
Jaquier looking to hit a scissor sweep but Han is one step ahead there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Han has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Han there as he acknowledges the shot.
Jaquier looks for a takedown but Han sprawls well.
Han defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Jaquier.
Joe Han has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Francis Jaquier.
Han shoots for a double leg takedown but Jaquier sprawls well. He's pushed Han's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Han looks for the body kick but Jaquier saw that one coming.
Joe Han seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Han looks to throw the jab but Jaquier is out of range.
Jaquier lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Han circles away quickly and effectively.

Han has Jaquier up against the cage in a clinch.
Jaquier takes an elbow to the temple.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Han is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Jaquier is keeping busy.
Jaquier has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Han is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Jaquier is trying to break the clinch but Han has him pressed against the cage.

Han looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Jaquier tries to pull guard but Han holds him up against the cage and eventually Jaquier drops back down to his feet.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Han breaks from the clinch.
Han displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Jaquier.

and Han moves into the clinch.
Han lands a knee to the body.
Han is trying to break the clinch but Jaquier is controlling him.
Jaquier fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Han is struggling to control the position.
Han is trying to stall.

Han is fighting off a takedown attempt but Jaquier is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Han to the mat. Han regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Jaquieris looking to pass into half guard but Han pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Han is in guard.
Han prevents Jaquier from getting back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Joe Han will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Francis Jaquier's cut.
That's time! Back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Han closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Jaquier throws a sloppy head kick and Han moves out of range easily.
Han uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Jaquier.
Joe Han is winning the standup battle so far.
Han misses with a double jab

and Jaquier counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Han's guard now.
Jaquier passes Han's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Jaquier not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Jaquier trying to control from half guard but Han is working away.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Jaquier perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Han pushes Jaquier off and gets back to his feet.

Jaquier fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Han sprawls well initially but Jaquier persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Han is staying active underneath Jaquier, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Jaquier tries to pass to full mount but Han defends it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jaquier is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Han reverses the position - he's now on top in Jaquier's guard.

Jaquier looking for a guillotine here but Han defends easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Han content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Jaquier is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Francis Jaquier has got the better of the ground game so far.
Jaquier works his way into full mount!
Jaquier wants to control the pace but Han is squirming around nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Han's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

And that's the end of the fight!
Francis Jaquier comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Han has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
