The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Herman dives in and grabs Ribeiro's left leg, looking for a takedown. Ribeiro pushes down on Herman's head and hops out.

Herman is looking to take a break and control but Ribeiro is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Herman wants to pass to mount but Ribeiro is defending the position.
Ribeiro might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Herman drops back looking for a leg! Ribeiro is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ribeiro manages to kick Herman off! Herman jumps back into Ribeiro's guard.

Ribeiro has his foot on Herman's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Herman works his way back into a safe position though.

Ribeiro has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Herman can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

That was a close round but I would say that Felipe Ribeiro will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Herman closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Herman has hold of Ribeiro's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Ribeiro manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Herman has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Ribeiro has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
