PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Don Handle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Erik Francisco (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Erik Francisco will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Don Handle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Erik Francisco!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Emerson Jorge and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Francisco closes the distance and clinches up with Handle, looking for a takedown. Francisco pushes Handle against the ropes but Handle circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Handle tries to clinch there but Francisco circles away.
Francisco scores with a three punch combo!
Handle shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Francisco defends it nicely.
Francisco has a takedown stuffed.
Francisco misses with a series of wild punches.
Handle throws a head kick that Francisco semi-blocks.


It looks like Erik Francisco has been cut.
Handle shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Francisco as he jumps to the side.
Handle takes a shot right to the bread basket.

Handle moves into the clinch.

Handle successfully pulls guard.
Handle is trying to keep Francisco in close.
Francisco stopping the sweep attempt from Handle.
Handle is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Handle trying to control the action but Francisco is working from the bottom.
Handle tries to pass the half guard into mount. Francisco knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Francisco tries to get to full guard but Handle has control of the leg.
Francisco is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Francisco can do anything to dispel that myth.
Well, if Handle is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Handle uses his free foot to push down on Francisco's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Francisco.
Handle tries to control but Francisco wriggling away.

Handle working for a guillotine from mount but Francisco is in no mood to give up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Francisco tries to improve his position but instead Handle has taken his back!

Handle is looking for the choke from the back position but Francisco is controlling his hands well.
Handle is breathing heavily.
Francisco trying to control the action but Handle just sinks the hooks in.
You can see the frustration on Francisco's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Handle is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Handle is looking for the choke from the back position but Francisco is controlling his hands well.

Francisco rolls, trying to escape but Handle keeps control of the position.

Francisco is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Handle gets his way!
Handle will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Handle has his opponent's back but Francisco is looking to stand. He manages to get to his feet and shakes off Handle.

That was a close round but I would say that Don Handle will probably get the nod.

Handle jumps guard and drags Francisco to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Francisco really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Handle. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Handle here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Handle slaps away a takedown attempt from Francisco, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Handle fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Francisco, pushing him back against the ropes.
Francisco wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Handle takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Handle ties up his opponent against the ropes and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Handle no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Francisco must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Handle pushes Francisco off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Francisco throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Handle escapes and throws Francisco's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Handle moves into full mount!

Handle looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Francisco throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.
Francisco is squirming around, avoiding Handle's attempts to control the action.
Francisco is looking to improve his position but Handle isn't that keen on the idea.
Handle wants to control the pace but Francisco is squirming around nicely.

Handle is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Francisco can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Handle looking to control but Francisco is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Handle prevents Francisco from getting the reversal.
Handle trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Francisco is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

Handle can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Francisco is looking to escape.
Don Handle overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Francisco tries to buck Handle off but he can't manage it.
Erik Francisco has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Handle is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Handle extends the arm and Francisco is forced to tap!
