Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Rob Mendez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ivan Steel!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Vladimir Khabensky and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mendez closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Mendez is looking for a kimura but Steel is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Mendez to get the leverage.
Mendez performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Mendez seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Steel does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Mendez trying to advance position but Steel counters by regaining guard.

Mendez would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Mendez is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Mendez looking to sit in guard and control but Steel gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Mendez is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Mendez is working hard here to advance position.
Steel wants to control from the top but Mendez keeps moving.
Steel content to stall in guard here.

Steel looks gassed!
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Mendez is on top in guard.
Mendez advances to half guard.

Mendez gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Steel is looking to clinch but Mendez is avoiding it.

Mendez looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Steel!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Mendez controlling the position easily from mount.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rob Mendez dominated that round.
That's time! Mendez's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Mendez darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Mendez perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Rob Mendez just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Mendez scores a takedown into full mount!
Mendez wants to take Steel's back but he can't do it this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Mendez content just to control the position here.

Mendez's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Mendez moves to the back position.
Mendez landing with strikes.
Steel is trying to stand back up.
Mendez slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

Mendez is working the ground and pound. Can Steel escape?
Steel is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Mendez.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Mendez is working for a rear naked choke. Steel is not defending it well and Mendez has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Steel refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Steel's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:37 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Rob Mendez!
