PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Raig Si Zhiro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yoshi Takata (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yoshi Takata!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Ren Mimura and Shigeki Sano.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Takata gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Si Zhiro looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!

Takata manages to pull guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Takata is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Takata is controlling Si Zhiro's posture.
Takata is looking to stand up but Si Zhiro isn't so interested in that idea.
Si Zhiro trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Si Zhiro got a little sloppy there for a moment and Takata has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Si Zhiro has managed to get both his arms back between Takata's legs - danger averted.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Si Zhiro won't allow Takata to sweep him here.
Takata is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Si Zhiro shoots in looking for a takedown. Takata tries to sprawl out of it but Si Zhiro keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Takata manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Si Zhiro closes this distance looking for a takedown but Takata circles away.

Takata is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Si Zhiro's half guard.
Si Zhiro is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Takata scores with a couple of nice shots.
Takata wants to stand up but Si Zhiro has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Si Zhiro might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Takata wants to stand but Si Zhiro has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Takata escapes and gets back to his feet.
Takata looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.

and Takata counters with a head kick.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Raig Si Zhiro. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Takata tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Takata.

Takata moves into the clinch.

Si Zhiro drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Takata gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Nice body punch from Takata - that landed with a thud.
Takata slows down the pace here.

Takata pulls Si Zhiro into guard.
Takata wants to sweep but no luck.
Si Zhiro is on the wrong end of a couple of strikes there.

Takata looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Si Zhiro is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Takata is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Takata has escaped and now he's on top!

Takata stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Si Zhiro swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Si Zhiro manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Takata slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yoshi Takata dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Takata misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Si Zhiro tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Takata counters with a nice double leg into side control. Si Zhiro won't be happy with that.

Takata is trying to get an arm triangle but Si Zhiro is defending well.
Takata slows the pace down.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Takata stands up and beckons Si Zhiro to his feet.

Takata feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Si Zhiro has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Takata can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Si Zhiro has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Takata should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Si Zhiro has tightened it up now! Takata should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
