PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Phil Macaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Terry Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Jones's choice of entrance music: Nas - Hero. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Macaw misses the jab.
Macaw throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Jones throws a lazy right hand but Macaw sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Jones looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Macaw is fending him off so far but Jones persists. Nope, Macaw circles away and we're back to standing.

Jones feints and as Macaw raises his hands in defense, Jones changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Macaw wants to sweep here but Jones controlling him for the moment.
Jones working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Macaw's head.
Jones throws and elbow that misses. Macaw uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Jones's guard. Nice move by Macaw!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Macaw avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Macaw utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Jones accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Jones wants to control from the top but Macaw keeps moving.

Jones distracts Macaw with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Macaw looks to throw the jab but Jones is out of range.
Jones tries to close the distance and clinch up but Macaw swats him away and circles back towards the center.

A low kick from Macaw misses
and Jones counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Jones misses with a wild combination.
A slow jab from Jones misses its intended target.
Some bone on bone action there as Jones checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Jones shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Macaw as he avoids it easily.
Macaw throws a hook but Jones avoids it easily.
Jones lands a brutal head kick. Macaw looks out on his feet and Jones throws more strikes until the ref is forced to stop the fight!
