PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Juan Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tony Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Nard Betker and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Santos throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Johnson throws a sloppy head kick and Santos moves out of range easily.
Santos misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Johnson throws a left and a right that both miss
and Santos counters with a two punch combo.
Santos shoots in and drives through. Johnson sprawls well.

Santos bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Santos closes this distance looking for a takedown but Johnson circles away.

Santos shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Johnson's guard.

Santos wants to stand but Johnson has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Santos has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Johnson is looking for a sweep. Santos is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Johnson is wriggling around trying to escape.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Santos in particular looking to stall.
Santos wants to free his trapped foot but Johnson is holding on for dear life with his legs.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Johnson is not content to let Santos control the position.
Johnson is pressing down on Santos's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Johnson looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Santos has picked Johnson up and slammed him! Johnson can't keep hold of the triangle and Santos manages to pass to side control!

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Santos stands and steps away. Johnson gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Santos takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Johnson is trying to maintain the position but Santos is very close to passing his half guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

I would just about give that final round to Tony Johnson.
