PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alexander Rogov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and George Seryogin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rogov comes to the cage accompanied by Close your eyes. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, George Seryogin!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rogov closes the distance and clinches.

Rogov turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Rogov manages to end up in side control.
You can see the frustration on Seryogin's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Seryogin is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Rogov is staying active.
Seryogin tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Rogov will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Rogov looking to control but instead Seryogin has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.
Rogov wants to lay and pray for a moment but Seryogin keeps working.
Rogov thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Rogov looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Seryogin has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rogov is working away from the top position though.
Seryogin might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Rogov kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Seryogin is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Rogov is aware though and is defending well.
Rogov looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Seryogin has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Rogov is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Seryogin.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Rogov throws an elbow but Seryogin slips to the side and avoids it well.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Rogov counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Seryogin's guard now.

Rogov shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Seryogin is trying to defend but Rogov finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Seryogin is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Seryogin should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Rogov seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Seryogin makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Seryogin.
Rogov stops Seryogin from standing up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rogov wants to control from the top but Seryogin keeps moving.
Seryogin is looking to stand up but Rogov isn't so interested in that idea.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Rogov is on top in guard.

Seryogin manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Rogov manages to get himself to full guard.

Rogov has his foot on Seryogin's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Seryogin works his way back into a safe position though.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Seryogin has his takedown stuffed

Seryogin is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Rogov is keeping busy.

Rogov jumps guard and drags Seryogin to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Rogov escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Seryogin gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
