These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Pedro Romero!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Frankie Murdock!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Alyssa Summers and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Romero takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Murdock tries to close the distance and clinch but Romero swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Murdock avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Pedro Romero seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Romero leaves Murdock with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Romero throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Murdock wants to clinch.
Murdock slips a jab and a cross from Romero.
Murdock misses with a takedown attempt - Romero sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
The crowd cheers as Murdock lands an impressive looking overhand right. Romero doesn't seem phased though.

Murdock shoots in for a double leg but Romero sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Pedro Romero has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Frankie Murdock.
Murdock walks into a stiff left hand from Romero.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Romero misses with a wild combination.
Murdock tries to clinch there but Romero circles away.
Murdock shoots for a double leg takedown but Romero sprawls well. He's pushed Murdock's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Murdock misses with a double jab
and Romero counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Murdock slips a jab and a cross from Romero.
Murdock swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
letting Romero counter with a right hand.
Romero misses with a straight right.
Romero avoids a punch combination nicely.
Romero moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.

Romero cracks Murdock with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Murdock looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Romero finish him?


Murdock is rocked!


It looks like Frankie Murdock has been cut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Romero closes the distance and lands a crisp combination that knocks Murdock out cold! Murdock corner are devastated, head in hands behind our commentary position. Poor guys.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Pedro Romero!
