The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Russell shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Ferguson pinned against the cage. Ferguson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Russell scores with a slapping inside leg kick.

Ferguson tries to clinch

and Russell counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ferguson pushes Russell off and gets back to his feet.

Ferguson wants to control from the top but Russell keeps moving.

Russell throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Ferguson escapes and throws Russell's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Russell displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Ferguson throws out the jab.

Jack Russell has got the better of the ground game so far.

Ferguson is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Russell tries to pull guard but Ferguson won't allow it.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
